From RIO training to Joules Private Parenting Advice
From youth care to self-employment
After retiring as a treatment coordinator in youth care in 2014, I had to figure out what to do with my professional life. Personal development is my passion, so after completing the Mindfulness training, I, as an educational psychologist, became interested in pursuing the Mindful Parenting training at the University of Amsterdam.
I quickly realized that parents rarely change with conventional childcare interventions. These focused primarily on behavior and not on the core issues: trauma, emotions, and changing beliefs. For this reason, Mindful Parenting was, in every respect, the better approach for me.
RIO Trainingen offers Mindful Parenting
With my father's help, I finalized all the contracts and soon—with my company, RIO Trainingen—I was able to start providing Mindful Parenting training, funded by the municipalities of Eindhoven, Helmond, and the surrounding area. RIO Training stood for: Space for Intuitive Development. Registrations came in via Facebook, and—after a visit to the GP and an intake interview—the parents were able to get started.
I loved it – supporting these parents by offering a real solution. The parents were also enthusiastic and saw a change in their parenting style and a positive shift in their children's behavior.
A profound method: Holistic Parenting
However, I felt something was still missing. Besides giving these trainings, I had also completed the energetic training "Mens en Intuïtie, Intuitive Development" and was reimbursed as an energetic therapist by several health insurers. When I then gave the Mindful Parenting training, I didn't feel free to use energetic exercises, and when I gave an energetic treatment, a mindfulness exercise felt "too light." What next?
During a two-year assignment to California through my husband's work, I took the time to explore how I could address the lack of energetic support in parenting. This resulted in my Holistic Parenting method, which allows me to draw on the treasures of all my experiences, skills, and character traits.
JouLes Private parenting advice
I now offer the book, the (online) Holistic Parenting training, and the parenting advice through my private company, JouLes Private Parenting Advice. Why JouLes? And why private? Joules is the unit of energy, and since I guide parents with simple, home-based energy exercises to optimally utilize their intuition, I came up with this name. I've also divided it into two parts: "You" and "Lesson," because parents want to receive (your) own lessons in their parenting lives.
Why private?
The fact that my services are not reimbursed by the municipality or health insurer means that you are willing, motivated, and enthusiastic to work with me, as opposed to a 'care provision' that arises through referrals.
So let's help even more parents become confident parents who remain calm, regardless of what's going on in their upbringing.
